The numbers of referrals, both minor and serious, that the Victoria Restorative Justice Society has  received since its inception in 2005 has been steadily increasing.   In our fiscal year for 2010, VRJS received 75 referrals:

37 from the Victoria Police Department

16 from Victoria Crown Counsel

14 from local area schools

3 directly from victims of crime

2 from the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia

2 – Other restorative justice program (John Howard Society)

1 from a local social service agency (REES)

The total compliance rate of offenders in our program from the 2012 fiscal year was 93%, or 98% including partial compliance.

In 2010, VRJS facilitated the payment of over $10,000 directly to victims of crime.

-Uttering Threats
-Mischief under $5,000
-Theft under $5,000
-Impaired Causing Bodily Harm
-Dangerous Driving Causing Death
-Driving with Undue Care and Attention
-Assaulting a Police Officer
-Trespassing
-Fare by Fraud
-Food by Fraud
-Fraud over $5,000 and Fraud under $5,000
-Common Assault, Assault with a Weapon, Assault Causing Bodily Harm
-Simple Possession (recreational drug)
-Taking a Vehicle Without Consent
-Arson
-Cruelty to an Animal
-Obstructing a Peace Officer
-Discharging a Firearm in a Public Place
-Unlawfully in a Dwelling
